Alder trees provide a fast growing screening with attractive catkins in spring. Growing in a tall pyramid shape, Alder provides a habitat for over 280 insect species. Early spring catkins blossom between February and April and the tiny, cone-like fruits resemble pinecones. Alder's dark green leaves are racquet-shaped and leathery. Tolerates most conditions and soils and Alder is especially at home in damp areas.Deciduous trees supplied between November and March are likely to have no leaves until the spring.
